All About MassHealth

If your loved one is in need of adult foster care, you’ve likely looked over the standards for application that are listed on our website. Most of these qualifications can be determined almost immediately; after all, you should have a good idea of what they need help with and the specifications for it! However, there’s one that might require you to do a little more work depending on if you have it, and that’s receiving Medicaid through MassHealth. You may have seen MassHealth on our website a few times, but what is it – and how does it benefit its users? We break it down for you below!

What Is MassHealth?

In the United States, Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) are incredibly important to its healthcare coverage. Depending on which state you live in, these are administered differently while still providing the same benefits. The same is true for Massachusetts, as these two programs are combined into one: MassHealth! You can receive health and dental benefits through the MassHealth program, and it’s also how you’ll be administered Medicaid coverage.

Do I Qualify For MassHealth?

There are different qualification standards depending on if you’re applying as an individual or a family, but the standards that you’ll be most interested in are those for applicants who need long-term care services. Individuals who are eligible for long-term care at home do qualify for applying, but there are a few things you’ll need to provide along with it. These are: your social security number, proof of any health insurance coverage you received in the past, proof of citizenship and proof of income. Once you have everything, you can send in your application!

What Plans Are There?

MassHealth offers a variety of plans that are tailored to meet the specific needs of an individual. There are four different plans that you can choose from: the Accountable Care Partnership plan, the Primary Care ACO plan, a Managed Care Organization plan, and the Primary Care Clinician Plan. For more information on these plans and determining which one is the best fit for you, click here to learn about the specifics of each one!
